Q: How do I register?
A: Registration will be open right here on GalvestonLittleLeague.com. You will need to create an account. Registration for the Spring 2024 season will open November 24-January 6. There will be an Early Bird discount November 24-December 8.
Q: What are the divisions?
A: The division structure includes Tee Ball (4-5 years), Coach Pitch (5-6 years), Machine Pitch (7-8 years), Minors (Player Pitch) (9-10 years), Majors (Player Pitch) (11-12 years) and Juniors (Player Pitch) (13-14 years). There is a link on our home page to Little League's Age Determination Chart.
Q: I want to support the kids. How can I sponsor?
A: Great! Click on the sponsorship tab on this website, fill out the online form and we’ll be in touch. Easy breezy! You can always reach out to Brian Slimp, he’s responsible for sponsorships! ([email protected])
Q: What if I want my child to play in a different division?
A: Players must register for the division associated with their League Age. If you want your child to play at the level above or below their division, please complete registration, then submit an email to [email protected] with Special Request in the subject line. State your request in the email and the Board of Directors will have to review on a case-by-case basis. We try to accommodate requests, but we also have to be safe and fair. Thank you for understanding!
Q: When does the season start?
A: We’re excited to start everything earlier this year! Practices will begin by early February and games will begin in March. Mandatory evaluations are tentatively scheduled for January 20th, with make-up evaluations on the 21st (all divisions except T-Ball and Coach Pitch). Yes, we will schedule around Moody’s basketball program.
Q: How long is the Little League season?
A: Typically, the Little League season runs from mid-March through late-May. Upper divisions (Machine Pitch, Minors, Majors and Juniors) continue with post-season tournaments and all-star games into late-June and early-July.
Q: What do I do with the Medical Release Form I was asked to print and sign?
A: Give it to your child’s coach/manager during the first week of practice. Please reach out if you do not have access to a printer.
Q: What is included with the League fees?
A: The registration fees pay for the players' uniform, which will include a hat and jersey. Registration also goes toward Galveston Little League's equipment and other operational costs (e.g., regular season umpires, field maintenance, insurance, events, etc.).
Q: What part of the uniform is not included with the League fees?
A: Parents will be responsible for pants, socks, belts and cleats. Cleats are recommended, but not required. Each team's manager/coach will determine colors and inform parents before their first game.
Q: Why is each player required to participate in fundraising?
A: The registration fees alone do not cover all the expenses to operate the league. It also allows the businesses in our community to support the league. For the 2023 season, the main fundraiser was the carnival March 25th. Fundraising for the 2024 season is TBD.
Q: How many games / practices can we expect?
A: A 12-game minimum regular season with at LEAST one practice per week. There will be two games per week in most divisions. Practices vary and are determined by division and coaches.
Q: Where are the games and practices?
A: All games will be played at Crockett Park fields located at 53rd & Avenue S. If necessary, we will utilize the fields at Schreiber Park, located on 81st Street and Lindale Park, located on Albacore Drive. The schedule will be posted mid-February. Practice locations vary and are determined by team manager/coach.
Q: What kind of equipment do I need?
A: At the very least, a good glove. You may also need cleats, a helmet, an equipment bag, and a bat. Bats must have the USA Baseball logo. Please refer to the Little League website for specific bat information, or visit usabat.com for an approved bat list.
Q: What is this Little League Membership?
A: Little League International has recommended we create a membership opportunity that allows parents to buy-in and be voting members of Galveston Little League. Members will be invited to the Annual Meeting and will be able to vote for future elections, etc. The membership fee will go towards operating costs.
